If you’re looking for a fun, culture-filled day out in Los Angeles that everyone in the family can enjoy, be sure to check out LACMA. Whether you’re a lifelong Angeleno or visiting from out of town, LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) offers the perfect mix of creativity, open space, and iconic scenery that makes it just as exciting for kids as it is inspiring for adults. It’s also one of my favorite places in LA for a family photoshoot.

From the moment you arrive, LACMA feels like more like an experience than just a museum. The grounds are spacious and walkable, making it easy for families with strollers, energetic toddlers, or children of any age. There’s room to wander, take breaks, and let kids be kids while still soaking in art and culture.
One of the most recognizable (and beloved) spots is Urban Light, the installation of over 200 vintage street lamps. Kids love weaving through the lights, parents love the nostalgia, and photographers love it because it looks incredible at any time of day. It’s playful, iconic, and instantly recognizable as Los Angeles, perfect for family photos that feel timeless and fun.
Inside the museum, there’s no shortage of kid-friendly inspiration. LACMA’s diverse exhibits, from ancient artifacts to modern art spark curiosity. Older kids often enjoy finding their favorite pieces or textures, while younger ones love the bold colors and shapes. Even if you don’t make it through every gallery (because, let’s be honest, kids), just sampling a few can make the day feel special.
Outside, the museum campus really shines for families. The open lawns and architectural features create endless opportunities to pause, snack, and relax.

That’s exactly why LACMA is such an amazing location for a family photoshoot. The environment encourages genuine interaction rather than stiff posing. Kids don’t feel pressured—they’re free to explore, and those authentic moments are what make those really special images. As your photographer, I choose spots that complement your family’s energy while making sure the experience feels relaxed and enjoyable. LACMA is centrally located which is another bonus, close to restaurants, coffee shops, and other attractions. You can easily turn your photo session into a full day out—grabbing lunch afterward, treating the kids to ice cream, or continuing the adventure nearby. It’s not just about photos; it’s about creating an experience your family will remember.
If you’ve been thinking about updating your family photos and want something that feels natural, artistic, and uniquely “LA,” LACMA is a beautiful choice. If you’d love to plan a family photoshoot with me, I’d be so excited to help you create something special. Let’s capture your family’s story in a place that’s full of light, creativity, and joy. Just get in touch!
