As a mother, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of being celebrated on Mother’s Day. It’s a day that’s all about us, a day where we can relax and feel appreciated for the hard work we do. If you’re in Los Angeles, there are so many things to do that can make the day even more special. I tend to like a relaxing day and to spend it with my family and daughter. Here are some ideas for Mother’s Day activities in Los Angeles that I myself would absolutely love.
After giving me a lie in to catch up on some much needed sleep, waking up to the delicious smell of breakfast being made in the kitchen is one of the best ways to start the day. I don’t need anything fancy, just some pancakes, bacon, fresh fruit and an orange juice would be perfect. If my husband really wanted to step it up, being British I’d love a full English breakfast!
I love the ocean. There’s not much that makes me feel happier and more serene than when I can hear the ocean. Where I can walk along feeling the sand under my feet. My daughter is 2 so now it’s a case of running in and out of the very cold ocean and throwing stones as far as she can, but her excitement fills me up! A trip to the beach would be a wonderful way to spend a Los Angeles Mother’s Day. We could even pack a picnic lunch, build a sandcastle, and soak up the sun.
In the evening popping along to Dukes Malibu would be the perfect end. I absolutely love sitting in their Barefoot Bar and enjoying some delicious tacos. My family always remembers beach days as some of our favorites.
As a mother, I always cherish the time I get to spend with my family, and what better way to do that than by taking a hike in the hills around LA. It’s a chance to get some exercise, take in some fresh air, and spend some quality time together. Of course, if you have really little ones this gets a bit harder. As I mentioned I have a 2 year old, and I’m also pregnant with my second so I think I’ll be holding off on any hiking for this year! I do really enjoy a walk at the park though. Lake Balboa Park is one of my favorites.
Talking of Lake Balboa Park, this is another great idea for an LA Mother’s Day activity. My husband actually surprised me with a beautiful Mother’s Day Brunch picnic here for my very first Mother’s Day. It was truly wonderful. We walked around the lake, then on top of one of the hills he had set up a low to the ground table. He had decorated with a table cloth, some decorations, balloons and surrounded by cushions on the floor. My husband had picked up brunch from my current favorite brunch spot “& Waffles” and we enjoyed a really lovely afternoon.
My daughter had a massive diaper blow out on the way there, but that’s par for the course when being a mommy isn’t it?
You could even take a duck boat ride on the lake, we did this as a family another time once my daughter was a little older and we had so much fun! As a Los Angeles family photographer I photograph at this park often, so many beautiful spots and so much depth which fits my dreamy style beautifully.
As a busy mom, there are few things that sound as appealing as a day of pampering at the spa. A massage, a facial, and some time in a sauna or hot tub would be the perfect way to unwind and relax. If you’d like a break away for a few hours on your own this Mother’s Day, I would highly recommend a spa day. I actually like to receive a spa gift certificate as a Mother’s Day present! (wink wink to my husband if you happen to be reading this). Having this to then enjoy a day to myself after Mother’s Day is perfect. You can book a day in your diary and go enjoy the lovely day relaxing and unwinding. One of my favorite spas here in LA is Burke Williams in Woodland Hills.
After a day of adventure or relaxation, there’s nothing like curling up on the couch with my family and watching a good movie. We’d order some pizza, make some popcorn, snuggle under blankets, and enjoy each other’s company. It’s a simple, cozy way to end the day.
If you’re looking for gift ideas for this Mother’s Day, a gift certificate for a family photoshoot would be a perfect touch! With a gift certificate for a photoshoot, you can give your mom the gift of memories. Whether it’s a family portrait, a mommy and me session, or a photoshoot with grandchildren, as a Los Angeles maternity, newborn and family photographer I love capturing the essence of our loved ones in a way that you will treasure forever. It’s a chance to celebrate her, to make her feel beautiful, and to create memories that will last a lifetime.
As a mother, what I really want on Mother’s Day is to feel loved and appreciated. These activities are all wonderful ways to make me feel that way, but what really matters is that my family is there with me, spending time and creating memories.
